Sumner Wound Care Adds Surgeon Brandon Mewbourne to Medical Staff
Sumner Wound Care, Sumner Regional Medical Center’s (SRMC) outpatient wound treatment center, has added Brandon Mewbourne, M.D., a general surgeon on staff at SRMC to its medical practice.
Mewbourne joins an existing highly qualified staff team that includes medical director and Certified Wound Specialist® Paige Reichert, M.D., Certified Wound Specialist® Scott Faulkner, M.D., and Graham Frazier, D.P.M.
“Having Dr. Mewbourne’s expertise in the area of surgical intervention is extremely valuable to our team,” said Dr. Reichert. “By having him in our practice, we have access to a surgeon who is qualified to treat the more serious wounds that require patients to go into the operating room.”
Sumner Wound Care is Sumner Regional Medical Center’s (SRMC) program dedicated to the comprehensive treatment of problem wounds. It is an outpatient, hospital-based program that works in conjunction with the patient’s primary care physician, serving as an adjunctive service for the referring physician.
“As a surgeon, caring for wounds has always been a part of my practice,” said Dr. Mewbourne. “Since joining the Wound Care Center, however, I have learned new strategies for treating difficult wounds that will benefit my own patients as well as those of referring physicians."
In addition to having a surgeon on the Wound Care staff team, Sumner Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in Middle Tennessee to have two Certified Wound Specialists® on its medical staff, and is one of only two hospitals in the Middle Tennessee area with hyperbaric oxygen chambers. With its highly trained staff team and the latest technology in wound care, the Sumner Wound Care center helps patients achieve outstanding outcomes, with more than 91 percent of all wounds treated at the center being healed, a rate higher than the national average.
“We’re pleased to have Dr. Mewbourne join the existing medical staff team, and know his training and expertise will benefit the patients of Sumner Wound Care who require surgical intervention as part of their wound treatment plan,” said Anne Melton, RN, MSN, Chief Nursing Officer at SRMC. “Having a comprehensive, state-of-the-art wound treatment center with a highly trained medical staff is a real asset to patients in and surrounding Sumner County who are suffering from problem wounds.”
The staff of Sumner Wound Care will celebrate its third anniversary at SRMC during a public open house on Tuesday, December 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments and tours of the center’s hyperbaric chambers will be provided.
